ALBANY, N.Y. — Authorities say they've arrested 18 Albany-area residents who scammed New York state out of $150,000 in unemployment benefits.

State police and the Department of Labor say their separate investigations began weeks ago. Officials say the suspects were receiving unemployment checks while they were working.

Troopers say the amount collect fraudulently ranged from a low of $3,000 to a high of $22,000.

All 18 have been charged with felony counts of grand larceny, falsifying business records and offering a false instrument for filing.

Fourteen of the defendants are from Albany. Two are from Cohoes, one is from Troy and one is from Watervliet.
