The White House will welcome German Chancellor Angela Merkel next Friday, April 27, for a meeting with President Trump.
The two world leaders are meeting as Merkel seeks re-election, and they will be reaffirming the German-American partnership, according to a Wednesday White House statement.
“On the occasion of Merkel’s re-election as Chancellor, the two leaders will reaffirm the German-American partnership — a bedrock of the transatlantic relationship and the NATO Alliance — as both nations work together to address a broad range of geopolitical and economic challenges,” the statement says.
Following their meeting, Merkel and Trump will be speaking to the press and answering questions in the Rose Garden.
Germany was not part of the U.S.-Britain-France coalition that retaliated last week against Syria’s use of chemical weapons.
