Rep. Patrick McHenry, the acting House Majority Whip, has pneumonia and will miss his first round of town hall meetings during the August recess that began this week, his office announced Monday.

McHenry, R-N.C., has filled in for House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., as he recovers from being shot and seriously wounded at a congressional baseball practice last month.

"In light of his diagnosis and under advertisement of his doctor, the congressman will be postponing his first round of town hall meetings," an addendum to McHenry's newsletter said.

Scalise participated in the weekly whip meeting last week, led by McHenry, for the first time since the June 14 shooting.

Scalise was discharged from the hospital last week and was moved to an inpatient rehabilitation facility after undergoing several surgeries related to his wounds.
