As the year winds down, many organizations are putting out their end-of-the-year bests. AFI announced on Monday its picks for the best movies and television shows of the year.

On the film side are "Zero Dark Thirty," "Lincoln," "The Dark Knight Rises," "Argo" "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Django Unchained," "Les Miserables," "Life of Pi," "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Silver Linings Playbook." For TV, the best shows are "American Horror Story," "Breaking Bad," "Game Change," "Game of Thrones," "Girls," "Homeland," "Louie," "Mad Men," "Modern Family" and "The Walking Dead." The casts of the films and show will be honored at a luncheon in January.
