So it appears from something that escaped media notice until late Sunday when the Washington Examiner's Ashe Schow posted the news that the Amber Alerts system operated by the Department of Justice had been shut down.

UPDATED! Amber alert website down due to government shutdown

Originally posted at 8:01 p.m. Sunday.

The Amber alert website, the national missing-child warning program, has been shut off due to the government shutdown, according to the Department of Justice.

“Due to the lapse in federal funding, this Office of Justice Programs website is unavailable,” it says on amberalert.gov.

Just 17 percent of the government is shut down, and Friday the Obama administration allowed union representatives to return to work.
