Conservative commentator Ann Coulter argued that if Democrats were smart, they would ditch Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., for a more “woke” Democrat, following revelations that Franken groped and forcefully kissed a radio host without her consent.

“My informed opinion is for one thing the Democrats do not care what Republicans have to say about it, so I may as well tell you the truth of what they ought to do,” Coulter said Friday night to Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “I don't think any Democrats are watching Fox News, but if they were smart, they would get rid of him. I mean in Minnesota he would be replaced by a much more woke Democrat. Maybe [Minnesota Rep.] Keith Ellison. Most likely, more likely, a feminist.”

Leeann Tweeden, a radio host and former sports commentator, came out on Thursday and said Franken forcefully kissed her when the two were practicing a skit as part of a USO tour in the Middle East in 2006. She also said Franken groped her while she slept on the flight from Afghanistan after the tour ended. A photo was released that shows the senator, then a comedian, touching Tweeden’s breasts while she was sleeping.

Two members of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, state auditor Rebecca Otto, and Megan Thomas, president of the party's official Feminist Caucus, have called on Franken to step down from his seat following the allegations.

Otto’s call for Franken’s resignation was the first from a major officeholder.

Other prominent Democrats, like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., have called for an ethics probe.

Franken has apologized for his behavior and said the photo was intended to be a joke, but added that he now realizes it was not funny. He said he would comply with an investigation into allegations from the Senate Ethics Committee.
