Denver-based Xanterra Parks & Resorts announced Tuesday it has acquired three cruise ships and a series of travel and resort properties.

Windstar Cruises, a Xanterra-owned company, reached an agreement with Seabourn -- a cruise company that operates six luxury cruise ships with the Carnival Corp. -- to purchase three ships. With the addition, Windstar Cruises will double the size of its fleet to six ships. The newly added models are 104-suite ships with "five-star" accommodations. They will be integrated into the Windstar Cruise fleet beginning in April 2014.

The company also recently bought the Grand Hotel in Tusayan, Ariz., which adjoins the Grand Canyon National Park, the Grand Canyon Railway, the Vermont Bicycling and Walking Vacations company, and Kingsmill Resort in historic Williamsburg.

Xanterra said the purchases will add to its revenue, which has grown more than 50 percent over the last three years. The company is owned by Philip Anschutz, who owns Clarity Media Group, the parent company of The Washington Examiner.

"These businesses build on our existing portfolio as well as expand our operations into adventure vacations throughout the world, further diversifying our leisure travel holdings," said Andrew N. Todd, president and CEO of Xanterra.
