Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy on Monday issued an order temporarily blocking a lower court ruling that would have limited President Trump's travel ban.

Kennedy's administrative stay temporarily halts the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision last week that ruled against the Trump administration's interpretation of the controversial travel ban.

The western federal appeals court heard arguments last week in the fight over who is blocked from coming to the U.S. from six Muslim-majority countries under Trump's travel ban, and subsequently ruled against the president.

The Supreme Court allowed part of the ban to be enforced in an order before the end of its last term this summer, pending oral arguments scheduled before the high court in October.
