Anthony Scaramucci, the recently deposed White House communications director, said Tuesday he felt betrayed by a New Yorker reporter who published an expletive-filled rant in which Scaramucci spoke vulgarly about fellow Trump administration officials.

The reporter, Ryan Lizza, published a first-person account of a conversation he had with Scaramucci last week, in which the former White House communications director referred to Reince Priebus as a "fucking paranoid schizophrenic."

"Most of what I said was humorous and joking," Scaramucci told Huffpost on Tuesday. "Legally, it may have been on the record, but the spirit of it was off. And he knew that."

Priebus resigned as White House chief of staff shortly after the publication of Lizza's story and was replaced by John Kelly, who promptly forced Scaramucci to resign on Monday.

Scaramucci said Lizza owed him loyalty because of a family relationship he said they have.

"The Lizzas and Scaramuccis have been friends for over 50 years," Scaramucci told Huffpost on Tuesday. "My dad knew his dad from construction, and we were building a personal relationship.

Lizza denied having any sort of ties to Scaramucci.

"I've only known Anthony in his capacity as a Trump surrogate and then White House communications director," Lizza told Huffpost. "We are not and have never been ‘old family friends,' though I think our fathers knew each other, so maybe that's what he's talking about. (The Long Island Italian world in that generation is relatively small.) But again that would not be a reason to suppress an explosive on-the-record interview."

In the interview, Scaramucci recounted Kelly's conversation asking him to resign as communications director.

"It was a very polite conversation," Scaramucci said.

He said he spoke with Trump later Monday over the phone after leaving the White House.

"The president told me he knows I have his back, but he has to try to tighten the ship," Scaramucci said.

Asked by the Huffpost what he will do next, Scaramucci said: "I am now going to go dark. Then I will re-emerge. As me."
