New York City mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner, having fallen to fourth place following another sexting scandal, issued a statement Monday that he hopes will win over female voters.
“When women have equal rights, our society is better off,” Weiner says in an email to supporters. “This is one of my long-held beliefs and it’s why I have been such a staunch supporter of women’s rights my entire career. ”
Weiner plummeted in the polls earlier this summer when he admitted to sexting with women were not his wife as recently as last summer, nearly a full year after the same type of behavior forced him to quit Congress.
In his latest campaign message, Weiner stressed to supporters that Monday was the final day that their contributions would be matched by the city before the Democratic primary.
Weiner advises supporters to “check out a speech” he delivered to Planned Parenthood in 2011.
“It’s part of a new feature on my website called a ‘Stroll Down Memory Lane’ where you can see where I’ve stood on the issues and what I will fight for as your mayor.”
Weiner’s sexting pal, Sydney Leathers, leaked their lurid conversations and disclosed the two had frequent phone sex and that Weiner planned to buy her a condo so they would have a place to meet.
Leathers now is starring in a adult film with a man portraying Weiner, whose communicated with Leathers under the screen name “Carlos Danger.”
