Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., voiced his outrage over Education Secretary Betsy DeVos' announcement that she plans to overturn Obama-era Title IX campus sexual assault guidelines on Thursday.

The Vermont senator called DeVos' decision "a disservice to those who worked hard to address sexual violence" and "protect women."

Sanders also called for lawmakers to do "everything possible" to ensure American campuses are safe.

While on the 2016 campaign trail, Sanders called campus sexual assaults an "epidemic" and advocated to make it mandatory for university officials to hand rape cases over to law enforcement.
