A blind man who fell off a Metro platform died three days after he was struck by a Red Line train, becoming the second transit rider this year killed in an accidental slip.

The 48-year-old Rockville man tumbled off the Gallery Place platform just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday. He had been hospitalized since the fall but died around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato.

The agency declined to release the man's name, citing his privacy.

In March, Kevin Deiss, 22, was killed after he fell onto the tracks at the East Falls Church station. At least 24 people have been killed in the transit system this year, including at least nine suicides.
