Expert: Drug violence result of lapsed gun control enforcement

The Associated Press
March 12, 2009

A gun control expert says the administration can help control drug violence in Mexico by enforcing already existing laws.

Expert Tom Diaz says that imports of certain semiautomatic rifles were regulated under the first Bush and Clinton administrations. But he told a House panel Wednesday the import rules were relaxed under the most recent Bush administration.

Diaz also says a 1930s gun law can be used to regulate imports of .50-caliber rifles also used by the cartels. Federal officials say about 90 percent of guns seized in Mexican organized crimes came from the U.S.

Tom Diaz is about an unbiased "expert" as I can imagine. He's a senior policy analyst for Violence Policy Center, which is partnered with Handgun Control, Inc. Diaz would probably say that guns cause foot odor, if Sarah Brady, et al instructed him to do so.

Yep, putting a fence up to keep criminal aliens out: bad. Disarming law abiding citizens that do the job the fedgov won't: good.

The answer to the problem is MORE guns..... in the hands of law-abiding citizens, ready, willing nd able to use them to defend against the druggie scum.

Yes, this is a crock of hooey... Those people are already breaking a multitude of gun laws getting those guns into Mexico as it is. Do you think they will hesitate to break a few more?? Of course they won't. They are criminals, enough said!!!

Is True, we don't need New Gun Laws. There are already so many, they need to start enforcing the ones on the books. Also, the Drug Cartels get their Full Auto Weapons from the US Government and CIA for Coca, or favors to local governments. I have seen the Stories and video footage. And Sense when did it become Legal for someone to buy large quanties of Fully Automatic Weapons and Hand grenaids from gun shops in the US, for transport to Mexico? Hhmmmmm?

There are already over 22,000 laws at the federal level regarding firearms and ammunition. Many states have there own abundance of laws. If 90% of the firearms used by Mexican gangs come from the U.S., I would believe that ALL of them were obtained illegally. How can depriving law abiding U.S. citizens the right to protect themselves help us in the fight against the Mexican gangs? Check out this video from John Stossel - its GREAT!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_YTM_eAWnQ
