U.S. Capitol Police investigated a suspicious package located on the steps of the Rotunda on Tuesday and arrested a man for unlawful entry on the steps, Capitol Police said Tuesday.
Police responded around 12 p.m., and the package was cleared after testing negative at around 1:08 p.m., according to Capitol Police. The man was transported to Capitol Police headquarters after being arrested.
The incident at the Capitol occurred as the White House was placed on lockdown around 1:15 p.m. due to an unattended package found near the North Lawn fence.
The Secret Service and Metropolitan Police Department responded to events there.
