The owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers said he received voicemails that were "vile, disgusting" and "racist" after LeBron James said on Twitter that President Trump is a "bum."
James was criticizing Trump for revoking an invitation for Stephen Curry ofthe Golden State Warriors to visit the White House.
"U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!" James tweeted last week.
After James's tweet, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert said he received a bevy of voicemails.
"I received voicemails after LeBron James tweeted that were some of the most vile, disgusting, racist," Gilbert told CNBC on Friday. "There's an element of racism that I didn't even realize existed in this country this month."
Gilbert said he didn't tell James about the messages, and said the voicemails weren't focused on the issue of James calling Trump a bum.
"You could hear it in their voice, the racism," he said. "It wasn't even really about the issue, and that's what really got me, because they went to who they really are, some of them."
