There were countless celebrity unions and splits in 2012. So which won out this year -- love or loathing?

Crazy in love:

Brad and Angie

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been together since 2005 and have six children together, so it's only natural that they would have gotten engaged this year. They previously said they wouldn't marry until gay marriage was legal, but due to pressure from their young brood, they bit the bullet this year. Only time will tell if 2013 is the year they finally say "I do."

Jen and Justin

Jennifer Aniston announced her engagement to actor/director/screenwriter Justin Theroux this year, and the two seem blissfully happy.

Justin has gotten the seal of approval from Jen's dad and was beaming when Jen got her star on the Walk of Fame in February.

We're just glad she's over that ugly John Mayer phase.

Ryan and Blake

Ryan Reynolds and his "Green Lantern" co-star Blake Lively were married in June after dating for only eight months. The pair managed to keep the nuptials a secret and wed at the South Carolina mansion featured in "The Notebook." The story of their wedding, along with all photos, were even kept secret until the Dec. 24 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings.

Matthew and Camila

Matthew McConaughey wed his longtime love, Brazilian model Camila Alves, during a three-day extravaganza in Austin, Texas. The pair, who have been together since 2006 and have two children together, opted to whisper their vows to each other instead of making them public for their guests to hear.

Wills and Kate

Prince William may have married his future queen in 2011, but he and Kate Middleton looked like glowing newlyweds throughout all of 2012. When an Irish tabloid printed photos of a topless Kate, William handled the scandal like a pro. And the expectant father stood by his wife's side when she was hospitalized for severe morning sickness. These parents-to-be are definitely heading into 2013 on a high note.

Justin and Jessica

One of pop's princes, Justin Timberlake, finally settled down with his longtime leading lady, Jessica Biel. The on-again, off-again pair married during a weeklong October celebration in Italy where they were surrounded by friends and family.

Moving on:

Johnny and Vanessa

After 14 years together and two children, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis officially called it quits in 2012. The rumors started early in the year with People magazine reporting that the two were drifting apart and had starting living separate lives.

Johnny reportedly moved on fast with his "Rum Diary" co-star Amber Heard, who is 23 years his junior.

Heidi and Seal

Heidi Klum and her hubby of more than six years, Seal, started off 2012 by announcing their separation. The couple, who have three children together, were famous for renewing their vows every year. Heidi has reportedly moved on with her bodyguard, and Seal doesn't like that she's "fornicating with the help."

Peter and Jenni

Longtime couple Jenni Garth and Peter Facinelli called it quits in March after 11 years of marriage.

Peter began dating his "Loosies" co-star Jaimie Alexander later in the year. Jenni said in December that the relationship Peter has with Jaimie (10 years his junior) "stings."

Tom and Katie

Tom Cruise divorced his third wife, Katie Holmes, this year in record time. Katie reportedly filed for divorce under the radar and the news came as a surprise for Tom. The pair, parents to daughter Suri, kept the super-fast divorce settlement private. Some blame Scientology, but either way, Katie isn't talking. The former "Dawson's Creek" star is said to have gained sole custody of Suri with Tom getting generous visitation.

Will and Amy

This one was a shocker for fans of Amy Poehler and Will Arnett. The pair, who had been married for nine years, called it quits in September. According to sources, the separation was "very amicable." Will and Amy are parents to sons Archie and Abel and have been spotted together at events for the boys since the split.

Bethenny and Jason

Two days before Christmas, Bethenny Frankel announced her separation form husband Jason Hoppy. The Skinnygirl mogul married Jason in 2010, and the duo are parents to daughter Bryn. Bethenny called the decision to split "extremely difficult."
