Chelsea Clinton will end her role as a special correspondent for NBC News, seven months after her last segment aired, People magazine reported Friday.

Clinton, whose first child is due later this year, drew widespread criticism for her limited role at the network that nevertheless earned her a $600,000 annual salary, far above the pay for most correspondents.

This year, NBC "decided to keep [Clinton] on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary Clinton, runs for president," Politico reported in June.

Hillary Clinton has not yet announced whether she will run for president, but she has been candid about weighing the option and has planned a trip to Iowa, a key presidential primary state, next month.

Chelsea Clinton will now "continue focusing on my work at the Clinton Foundation and as Marc and I look forward to welcoming our first child," she told People.
