Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took direct aim at President Trump's continued push to build a wall along the southern border with Mexico, calling it "a medieval solution to a modern problem."

The comments came a day after Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., struck a tentative deal with Trump to pass a package allowing those enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to stay in the country legally in exchange for increased border security measures.

"We're for sensible border security ... And there are a lot more effective ways of securing the border than a wall," Schumer said on the Senate floor.

"A wall can be scaled over. I'm sure those who love the wall, I'm sure they know of ladders. A wall can be tunneled under. I'm sure those who love the wall have heard of shovels. It's a medieval solution for a modern problem. A 'Game Of Thrones' idea for a world that is a lot closer to 'Star Wars.'"

Schumer's said, while no border wall funding will be included in this package, Trump remained steadfast that he would demand funding for it in future negotiations despite Democratic insistence they will not allow it.
