On this day, April 29, in 1992, Exxon executive Sidney Reso was kidnapped outside his New Jersey home by a former company security consultant.

Arthur Seale, an ex-cop who was laid off by Exxon, and his wife snatched 57-year-old Reso from his driveway and shot him in the arm.

They stuffed Reso in a wooden box, left him bound and gagged with sleeping pills, water and an orange.

Temperatures inside the box rose above 100 degrees and Reso died four days later.

Arthur and Irene Seale continued seeking an $18.5 million ransom. He was detained after an officer spotted him emerging from a phone booth wearing latex gloves. Arthur was convicted and sentenced to 95 years in prison. Irene received 20 years.
