A candidate for an Advisory Neighborhood Commission seat in Ward 6 was arrested Tuesday after she reportedly tackled a man who she claimed was messing with some of her campaign signs.
Grace E. Daughtridge, 47, was arrested on charges of simple assault, D.C. police said.
The incident occurred at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday outside the King Greenleaf Recreation Center in Southwest D.C., which was being used as a polling place.
NBC Washington reported that Daughtridge allegedly tackled a man, whom she apparently knew, because she thought he was tampering with her signs.
Police spokesman Officer Paul Metcalf said that Daughtridge said a homophobic slur to the man, so authorities will determine whether she should be charged with a hate-crime enhancement.
As of press time, the outcome of Daughtridge's race was not known.
