District Mayor Vince Gray announced Wednesday that he is appointing Barbara Lang to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Lang is the president and CEO of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce. A Gray spokesman said Lang will not replace any current appointees, but will be added to the board pending the D.C. Council's approval of legislation that would expand the size of the airports board. Virginia also would get more representation on the board under the legislation.

"Barbara Lang is a longtime civic leader in the District of Columbia, and enjoys widespread respect from everyday residents, business leaders and public officials alike," Gray said in a statement. "Her business acumen and personal skills will serve her and the people of D.C. well on this important board."

The troubled airports board, which oversees two of Washington's major airports as well as the $6 billion Dulles Rail project, has been under a steady stream of criticism over its contracting practices, lax ethics policies and travel spending.
