A 57-year-old District of Columbia man was sentenced to 17 years in prison for fatally stabbing a neighbor during an argument over the victim's dog.

Ellsworth Colbert was found guilty in January of manslaughter while armed.

According to prosecutors, Colbert emerged from his home in the 3500 block of Pope Street SE in March 2012 and confronted Robert L. Wright about his dog getting near his yard.

Colbert pulled out a knife and cut Wright, who then grabbed a shovel, authorities said. Colbert tackled him to the ground. After a short tussle, both men got up and walked away.

But Wright fell to the ground with several stab wounds to his body, including in the back, chest and abdomen, police said.
