Two pedestrians have died after being struck by vehicles in the District in a 24-hour period, D.C. police said.

The first incident took place at about 10 a.m. Tuesday in Northwest Washington.

A 2001 Dodge Ram was turning from Georgia Avenue onto Harvard Street when it struck 94 year-old Aidah Sabir-Jenkins, who was walking in a crosswalk, police said. Sabir-Jenkins, of Northwest D.C., succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene and received a citation, police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said.

The second fatal pedestrian crash occurred at about 5:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 1300 block of New York Avenue NE, police spokeswoman Officer Tisha Gant said. The pedestrian, a man, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The striking vehicle stayed at the scene, Gant said.
