The Des Moines Register endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio Saturday, touting him as "his party's best hope."
"Sen. Marco Rubio has the potential to chart a new direction for the party, and perhaps the nation, with his message of restoring the American dream," the Iowa paper's editorial board wrote in its official endorsement for the Republican primary.
The Register praised the "impressive grasp" of policy issues Rubio displayed during two separate meetings with the paper.
"The editorial board also values the executive experience, pragmatism and thoughtful policies of John Kasich, Chris Christie and Jeb Bush," the Register wrote. "Yet most Republicans aren't interested in rewarding a long resume this year. They want new and different."
Rubio presently ranks third among a crowded GOP field in Iowa with 11 percent of voters' support, according to the RealClear average of polls. He is third on the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings.
