Walt Disney Co. officials scrapped their plans to build a resort hotel at National Harbor, a major setback to the development's hopes of becoming an integral tourist destination in the Washington region.

Disney officials said Friday it just wasn't the right time to go forward with such a large-scale project, according to the Washington Post.

Prince George's officials were counting on Disney to catapult National Harbor, as well as the county, to another level. National Harbor already features plenty of retail, residential, hotel and office space, but a Disney attraction could have served as an anchor for the development.

County Executive Rushern Baker has made economic development in the county his top priority.
