The Democratic National Committee has dubbed President Trump’s State of the Union, “The State Of The Lies.”
Just 10 minutes into his speech, the party began producing “fact checking” under that headline.
The first hit the economy, the second the Trump tax cut, and the third his claim about black unemployment dropping.
- FACT CHECK: Trump’s Economy Is Not Roaring Like He Says It Is. The economy is not roaring like Trump says it is. The reality is that under Trump economic growth hasn’t picked up, job creation hit a 7-year low, and wages have remained stagnant.
- Despite Trump’s claims, the Trump tax is not for the middle class, and the American people know it. The Trump tax is not focused on helping middle-class families.
- FACT CHECK: African-American Unemployment Has Not Dropped Because of Trump. Trump once again repeated his claim that the African-American unemployment dropped because of him. For the thousandth time, it’s not true.
FACT CHECK: The Trump Tax Is Not Trickling Down To Workers. Trump just now: “Since we passed tax cuts, roughly 3 million workers have already gotten tax cut bonuses – many of them thousands of dollars per worker.”
Trump Exaggerates His Record On Veterans. Trump just now: “I will not stop until our veterans are properly taken care of.”
FACT CHECK: Offshoring Increased Under Trump. Tonight Trump said: "This is all news Americans are unaccustomed to hearing – for many years, companies and jobs were only leaving us. But now they are coming back.”
