Donald Trump announced the formation of a U.S. House leadership committee on Thursday, further signaling his shift toward the general election.
The Republican presidential front-runner's latest outreach effort to lawmakers on Capitol Hill will be led by Reps. Duncan Hunter of California and Chris Collins of New York, who have previously endorsed Trump.
"Congressman Hunter and Congressman Collins are conservative stalwarts," Trump said. "I am honored to have the support of these two well-respected members of Congress who share my vision of securing our borders, strengthening our military, treating our veterans with the respect and care they deserve and putting Americans first again."
Trump will spend most of Thursday meeting with lawmakers in Washington ahead of the Wisconsin primary next week. The Trump campaign also is planning to open an office in Washington to bolster its outreach efforts to members of Congress and the Republican National Committee.
