Donald Trump Jr. rebutted former FBI Director James Comey's testimony live on Twitter Thursday and said the hearing so far showed his father did not attempt to obstruct the agency's investigation into former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

President Trump himself was rumored to be preparing to tweet out messages during Comey's testimony, but the president had not tweeted out anything as of 11:40 a.m.

In response to Comey's testimony at the Senate Intelligence Committee, the president's son said his father's comments to Comey were "very far from any kind of coercion or influence and certainly not obstruction!"

Comey testified he recalled the president telling him, after Trump fired Flynn for misleading administration officials about his communications with Russians, "I hope you can let this go." But Trump's son downplayed those comments as two "guys talking about a guy they both know well."

"Flynn stuff is BS in context 2 guys talking about a guy they both know well. I hear 'I hope nothing happens but you have to do your job,'" Trump Jr. tweeted.

He also argued that if the president had ordered him to stop an investigation, Comey would have known. "Knowing my father for 39 years when he ‘orders or tells' you to do something there is no ambiguity, you will know exactly what he means," he said.

"Hoping and telling are two very different things, you would think that a guy like Comey would know that. #givemeabreak," Trump Jr. tweeted.

The president's son also took issue with Comey saying maybe he would have stood up to Trump at the time if he "were stronger."

"Maybe if I were stronger I would have," Comey said. "I was so stunned by the conversation that I just took it in."

The president's son said: "So if he was a 'Stronger guy' he might have actually followed procedure & the law? You were the director of the FBI, who are you kidding?"

He also drew attention to an exchange Comey had with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who while discussing media leaks, said "the only thing that's never been leaked" is that Trump was not personally under investigation. "We all know that there is no way anyone in the swamp would leak something favorable to #potus. Otherwise this whopper would be everywhere!" he said.

After Comey acknowledged that he had a law school professor leak the contents of a memo about his conversations to the media, Trump Jr. tweeted: "Did I miss something or did Comey just say he asked a friend to leak information to the press? Is this a joke?"
