Democratic Senator-elect Doug Jones of Alabama said his former opponent, Republican Roy Moore, should officially concede the race.

In an interview Sunday on CNN, Jones said now that the race is over, the focus should shift away from the contentious contest.

"It’s time to move on," he said. "Alabama has spoken."

Jones defeated Moore in last week's election by just over 1 percent of the vote. He became the first Democrat to represent Alabama in the Senate in 25 years.

Moore has so far refused to concede the race, pointing to the close margin of the vote and claiming there may have been voter fraud.

"I’ll be ready to go regardless of whether he concedes or not," said Jones.
