GlaxoSmithKline warns consumers not to use asthma drugs stolen from shipping facility

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — GlaxoSmithKline says two lots of its blockbuster asthma medication Advair Diskus were stolen from its facilities earlier this month, and could pose a risk to patients.

The British pharmaceutical company is warning patients not to use any of the more than 25,000 inhalers contained in the shipments, which were stolen August 2 from a company facility near Richmond, Va.

The lot numbers are:

_ Lot 9ZP2255 - NDC 0173-0696-00, Advair Diskus 250/50, 60 Dose

_ Lot 9ZP3325 - NDC 0173-0697-00, Advair Diskus 500/50, 60 Dose

Glaxo says the drugs were supposed to be shipped to pharmacies at the time of the theft. Glaxo says they could pose a safety risk because the inhalers may have been stored improperly,

Advair is the British drugmaker's best-selling prescription drug.
