CHARLES TOWN, W.VA. — More than 300 people have already voted on whether to let the Charles Town Races & Slots put table games alongside its slot machines.
Early voting in Jefferson County began Friday and continues until 5 p.m. Dec. 2.
Nikki Painter, deputy clerk in charge of elections, says 280 people voted the first day, and another 43 had voted by midmorning Monday.
She says she won't be surprised to see more than 2,000 early voters. Jefferson County has about 33,000 registered voters in all.
They will decide Dec. 5 whether to approve blackjack, poker and other games for the track, owned by Pennsylvania-based Penn National Gaming Inc.
Jefferson voters rejected the games two years ago, while voters in Kanawha, Hancock and Ohio counties passed them.
