I know this comment is a little late, but I was just in the Kennedy Center usher's office and saw the referenced article posted on the board. For the record, the role of Celie, currently played by Fantasia at the KenCen, was NOT played by Oprah in the Color Purple movie. Celie was played by Whoopi Goldberg in the movie and Oprah played the role of Sophia. Got to get the facts straight before putting it out there.... Nancy Gordon
