The former Culpeper police officer who killed an unarmed woman while on duty was sentenced Thursday to 3 years behind bars.

Daniel Harmon-Wright was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and other charges for the Feb. 9, 2012 death of 54-year-old Patricia Cook, whom he fatally shot while she was in a Jeep Wrangler.

Harmon-Wright was fired from the Culpeper Police Department after he was indicted.
