President Trump will appoint Fannie Mae General Counsel Brian Brooks as his deputy secretary of the Treasury Department, Axios reported Saturday.
Brooks, who previously worked with Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin at OneWest, is expected to fill the spot originally offered to Goldman Sachs executive Jim Donovan. Donovan withdrew his name from consideration due to family issues, according to the report.
Brooks is a Mnuchin loyalist, and is expected to be work very closely with the secretary.
However, the OneWest foreclosure controversy — the bank used potentially illegal tactics to foreclose on about 80,000 California homes — is likely to loom large in confirmation proceedings.
