A 9 mm handgun and a 7.62 caliber rifle were identified by law enforcement as the weapons used to shoot at lawmakers, staffers and police officers at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park on Wednesday.
The FBI said in a joint statement with federal, state and local law enforcement partners Thursday they are continuing to investigate James Hodgkinson as the single attacker in the shooting that critically injured House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. Hodgkinson was killed after a shootout with Capitol Police officers.
Law enforcement recovered the weapons at the scene.
"We currently have no evidence to suggest that the purchases were not lawful," the statement said.
The FBI said authorities are investigating Hodgkinson's activities and social media postings in the months leading up the attack.
"The FBI has processed the shooter's vehicle, a white conversion van, which was parked in the parking lot of the YMCA directly adjacent to the park where the shooting took place," the agencies said. "From that vehicle, the FBI has recovered and is processing a cell phone, a computer, and a camera."
Those injured include Scalise, Capitol Police Special Agent Crystal Griner, Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika, Rep. Roger Williams' aide Zack Barth and Capitol Police Special Agent David Bailey.
