A former campaign aide to President Trump says he made up a story about New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie fetching the billionaire McDonald’s to embarrass him.
“The sad reality is that it was believable,” Sam Nunberg told Politico about the fake story.
In June 2016, the New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza reported a Republican told him “a friend of his on the Trump campaign used Snapchat to send him a video of Christie fetching Trump’s McDonald’s order.”
Christie’s office denied the viral story, calling it a “bit of sleaze” and “pure trash.”
Christie endorsed Trump after dropping out of the Republican presidential primary. He helmed the transition team until he was fired after the election.
Christie told Politico that Trump has since offered him “two different Cabinet positions and three other really senior positions in the administration” but he turned them all down.
“They weren’t stuff I was interested in,” he said.
