The Republican National Committee has formally severed ties with NBC News for the upcoming presidential debate.
The party announced in a statement Monday evening that it was instead awarding the debate to CNN.
The GOP took action to suspend its relationship with NBC in October following a CNBC presidential debate panned for the moderators' performance.
In a conference call on Monday, the RNC decided to make its split with NBC official, according to a GOP source with knowledge of the plans. RNC chairman Reince Priebus released a statement on Monday night saying that CNN would replace NBC as broadcaster of the event.
National Review and Telemundo, the other partners of the upcoming debate in Houston, Texas, at the end of February, will remain as hosts. The debate will take place on February 25.
