Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will find her Tuesday CNN town hall and Fox interview shadowed by the Republicans who plan to broaden their "Stop Hillary" campaign with ads on the cable networks around her appearances.
The Republican National Committee told Secrets Monday night that they have cut a 30-second ad for the “Stop Hillary” effort that focuses on her blundering comments that the former first family was “dead broke” when they left the White House.
While they were facing about $3.9 million in legal bills due to Bill Clinton's scandals, Hillary Clinton had agreed to receive a $4 million book advance in the December before their departure and the former president was also set to receive an even higher advance. They bought two houses upon leaving the White House in 2001.
The ad features comments from reporters slapping her "broke" comment as major misstep. Clinton appears on the CNN town hall, cosponsored by Tumblr, at 5 p.m. and shortly after with Bret Baier and Greta Van Susteren on Fox.
The RNC has clearly decided to feed the national mockery of Clinton's comments through the ad and other similar efforts. For example, earlier Monday, they released another video playing off the popular ESPN Sports Center ads. In it, a squirrel mascot is featured in the ad titled, "Another Clinton in the White House is nuts."Paul Bedard, the Washington Examiner's "Washington Secrets" columnist, can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
