DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., went full Mr. Burns by comparing the government shutdown to blocking out the sun.

Speaking to CNN host Piers Morgan about her recent book, Wasserman Schultz blurted out the line about the government shutdown seemingly out of nowhere.

“We have so many dire, pressing issues that have been — it’s like we blocked out the sun when the government shut down and we almost reached default,” she said.

Wait, what? Does she really believe Americans depend on government that much? If that were true, it’s a miracle anyone has been able to survive since the shutdown started.

After blaming the Tea Party and conservatives — saying they're “hold[ing] the economy hostage with the Affordable Care Act as ransom” — Wasserman Schultz switched gears, calling on both sides to “work together.”

“It doesn’t have to be this way,” she said. “The Tea Party has taken us to the absolute extreme edge of the political process and we need to come back together.”

Great job trying to mend those bridges, Madam Chairman.
