Republican Rep.-elect Greg Gianforte will plead guilty to assaulting Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs, according to a Montana prosecutor.

Gianforte was charged with misdemeanor assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned and sentenced Monday.

Tweets from Jacobs and an audio recording released after the May 24 incident indicated Gianforte "body-slammed" Jacobs, injuring his elbow and breaking his glasses, after being asked a question he did not want to answer.

Gianforte now faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail, a $500 fine, or both, according to reports.

Gianforte has promised to donate $50,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Jacobs' glasses will be donated to the Newseum.
