Acting IRS commissioner Danny Werfel admitted today that the targeting of conservatives was broader than the agency originally admitted last month, but it was an accident — he said that no “intentional wrongdoing” took place.

“We have not found evidence of intentional wrongdoing by anyone in the IRS or involvement in these matters by anyone outside the IRS,” Werfel told reporters on a conference call, per the Associated Press.

The IRS also originally claimed that only a few low-level employees in a Cincinnati office engaged in the targeting, but the targeting was approved by top IRS officials in Washington D.C.
