Ivanka Trump became visibly emotional when the "Access Hollywood" tape, in which her father bragged about his ability to grope women, leaked a month before the election.

The president originally insisted to his daughter that his comments reported by the Washington Post did not sound like something he would say.

When the recording proved he did make the lewd comments about women, Ivanka Trump wanted her father to make a full-throated apology, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

The president, then the Republican nominee, refused to give in. Ivanka Trump became tearful and stormed out of her father's office in Trump Tower.

The first daughter was also shocked by the intensity of the campaign when her father made remarks about Mexico sending rapists to the U.S. His comments led two chefs to drop out of the Old Post Office building just blocks from the White House that she was developing into a hotel.

"Everything that was ascribed to him suddenly, for my critics, became true of me," she told the Times.
