Former FBI Director James Comey quoted his own testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee to respond to President Trump’s criticism that the FBI is in “tatters” after Comey led the bureau.
“I want the American people to know this truth: The FBI is honest. The FBI is strong. And the FBI is, and always will be, independent,” Comey wrote Sunday on Instagram and Twitter.

Comey testified in front the Intelligence Committee on June 8 about his conversations with Trump regarding the investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election.
Comey said Trump had made multiple comments to him that he saw as requests to drop the FBI’s investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the bureau about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador.
In a tweet Sunday morning, Trump denied ordering Comey to stop investigating his former national security adviser.
“I never asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn. Just more Fake News covering another Comey lie!” Trump wrote.
Trump also vowed to bring the FBI “back to greatness” after Comey left the bureau’s reputation in “tatters.”
