Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano announced today that the DHS together with the Department of Justice and the FBI have successfully worked to “reduce the risk” and “prevent” future mass shootings.

“In the coming days, DHS will expand and formalize coordination of ongoing efforts intended to prevent future mass casualty shootings, improve preparedness, and to strengthen security and resilience in schools and other potential targets,” Napalitano explained in a statement.

The Secretary also promoted her “If You See Something, Say Something™” campaign as a solution to mass shootings promising to “refresh, expand and prioritize” the implementation of the program.

The program encourages citizens to report suspicious behavior to law enforcement officials and the Department of Homeland Security.

“This is a critical issue that requires immediate attention and I look forward to supporting the President and this Administration as we move ahead” Napolitano concluded.
