Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen was briefly hospitalized in London over the weekend for an infection and was released Monday.

The Federal Reserve said in a statement that Yellen was treated at King Edward VII hospital in London from Friday until Monday.

"She is returning to Washington, D.C., and expects to resume her schedule as planned this week," the statement read.

Yellen went to London for a June 27 event at the British Academy and then stayed in the British capital for another few days for a vacation with her family.
