Chuck Schumer: Trump shouldn’t meet Putin alone

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned Wednesday against President Trump meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin without aides present.

“President Trump should not meet with President Putin alone,” Schumer, D-N.Y., tweeted Wednesday.

Trump will kick off a summit in Helsinki, Finland, on July 16 with a one-on-one meeting with Putin. The two leaders are expected to discuss U.S.-Russia relations and national security issues, the White House said.

According to a CNN report, the two will first meet privately without aides, before opening up talks to the larger delegations.

The president is currently attending the NATO Summit in Brussels, the first stop of his seven-day trip through Europe. He will also visit London and Scotland before his meetings with Putin in Helsinki.

Before departing Washington, D.C., on Tuesday for his Europe trip, Trump told reporters his visit with Putin “may be the easiest of them all.”
