Late night host Jimmy Kimmel made a below-the-belt healthcare joke about Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, over an incident that occurred early Tuesday morning in which his Twitter account "liked" a pornographic video.
After speculating who might have been behind the mishap -- Cruz blames a "staffing issue" -- Kimmel said on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that he doesn't think Cruz was the guy behind it.
"I really honestly don't think it was Ted Cruz," Kimmel said. "I don't think Ted Cruz looks at porn. Ted Cruz masturbates to pictures of poor people without healthcare."
Healthcare has been a particularly sensitive issue to Kimmel, who earlier this year delivered an emotional account of his newborn son's struggles to get care for a congenital heart condition. Kimmel said he's lucky to have the money to afford insurance but warned the Republican effort to repeal and replace Obamacare could put other children in jeopardy because it might not keep Obamacare's guarantee of coverage for those with pre-existing illnesses. This sparked the so-called "Jimmy Kimmel test" for any legislation that would succeed Obamacare, in which coverage is available to everyone regardless of their ability to pay.
Cruz has long been an adamant opponent of Obamacare and said the latest failed GOP effort in the Senate to repeal Obamacare was a "betrayal" to Americans who voted Republicans into office on the promise to dismantle the healthcare law.
