Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel kept at the Trump-related jokes past the monologue Sunday night, poking fun at the president's escalating struggle against "fake news."
"Hey, we have many wonderful stars and moments to share tonight and we will," said the comedian, "but before we go any further, if there's anyone here from CNN or the L.A. — or the New York Times, if you work for anything with the word times in it, I would like you to leave the building right now, okay?"
He continued: "We have no tolerance for fake news. Fake tans we love, but fake news? This is the fun part of the show. This is the part of the show when everyone still has hope, before people start losing and you realize you taped your dress to your boobs for nothing."
Trump has made a habit lately of labeling news outlets that publish leaked information and unflattering stories on his administration as "fake news." Last week the president called CNN and New York Times "fake news" after the outlets published stories citing anonymous sources about the administration wrongfully asking FBI officials to dispute reports about Trump officials' communications with Russia during the election.
"FAKE NEWS media knowingly doesn't tell the truth. A great danger to our country. The failing @nytimes has become a joke. Likewise @CNN. Sad!", Trump tweeted Friday evening.
