Former Vice President Joe Biden wants Mitt Romney to consider running for the Senate.

During an annual Romney-hosted conference in Utah on Friday, Biden encouraged his former foe to consider a Senate bid, Politico reported.

Romney ran with current House Speaker Paul Ryan in the 2012 presidential election against former President Barack Obama and Biden.

Romney, who smiled at Biden's suggestion, has reportedly shown some interest in Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch's seat. He has spoken to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and met with Hatch about the seat.

Hatch, the longest-serving Republican senator, said in March he was planning to run for re-election next year. He said in May that Romney would not be running to fill his seat.

"I've talked to Mitt Romney. He's not going to run for this seat. I would be glad for him if he would," Hatch said.
