MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said that President Trump firing special counsel Robert Mueller would create a "constitutional crisis" that would stain the GOP for years.

“Republicans pushed Americans too far in Alabama. They lost the most conservative state in America,” Scarborough tweeted Saturday morning. “Three days later they suggest the firing of Bob Mueller. That would start a constitutional crisis that will destroy GOP majorities for years. How stupid.”

The “Morning Joe” co-host's comments come after some prominent Republicans floated the idea of firing Mueller after the Department of Justice released text messages between FBI agents formerly on his Russia inquiry team that showed an apparent anti-Trump bias.

However, there has been growing speculation on Capitol Hill that the president is looking to fire Mueller before Christmas according to Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif.
